Madagascar tours

First, there is no other place like Madagascar. That might sound like brochure talk, but it is true. Madagascar tours is unique. Of roughly 200,000 known animal species found in Madagascar, 150,000 are endemic, meaning they occur nowhere else in the world. The same applies to the island’s weird and wonderful flora. How this incredible biodiversity came about is much up for debate. But there is nothing debatable about the sense of wonder one experiences when setting foot on this magnificently intriguing country, often referred to as the eighth continent. Tour Plan

1 Arrival in Antananarivo

On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you'll be greeted by an English-speaking guide who will drive you to Maison Gallieni, your hotel for one night. It is a restored colonial mansion with an elegant mix of modern and traditional décor. Built in 1879 on the site of a granite quarry, Maison Gallieni used to house the first bank created in Madagascar. Located on a hill, in the historic heart of the Malagasy capital, it offers a spectacular view overlooking the town.
This afternoon, you can relax in the hotel, at the pool, or head out to explore the colorful city of Antananarivo, known locally as ‘Tana’.

2 Air transfer to Anjajavy Lodge

After an early breakfast, you'll be transferred to Ivato International Airport for your scheduled charter flight to Anjajavy. You'll be greeted on arrival by a hotel representative and driven to Anjajavy Lodge, a luxury property set within a 450-hectare nature reserve on the northwest coast of Madagascar. Your duplex rosewood villa will feature a private deck overlooking the ocean, and you'll be surrounded by a magical forest filled with lemurs, chameleons and hummingbirds. This evening, you'll venture out on an exciting night walk to see the forest's nocturnal creatures, including the playful Coquerel's siafakas and the tiny Danfoss's mouse lemurs. Listen out for the strange squeal of the Grewcock's sportive lemur, and keep watch for the Commerson's leaf-nosed bat, the endemic Tsingy tufted-tailed rat, and the elusive fossa, Madagascar's largest predator.

3 Anjajavy Lodge

After breakfast, you'll head out on a walk along the Path of the Crabs (Chemin des Crabes), where you'll find ancient baobabs, the famous hairy crab and a kaleidoscope of birdlife including the bright red fody, Souimanga sunbird, paradise flycatcher, Madagascar fish eagle, crested ibis and the rare Madagascar sacred ibis. You'll also visit a cave where you'll discover historical treasures including stalactites, sharks' teeth and a fossilized lemur skull. You'll return to the lodge for lunch and a leisurely afternoon - soak in the large infinity pool filled with seawater or explore the private coves surrounding the lodge.

4 Anjajavy Lodge

Enjoy breakfast before taking a long walk along the King's Alley and Giant's Causeway, lined with ancient baobab trees and Tsingy rock formations found only on the island. You will also see Coquerel's sifakas, a remarkable species of lemur that bounces across the ground like a mini kangaroo. The sifakas and other species of lemur, such as the common brown lemur, roam freely around the lodge gardens and the reserve. You’ll return to the lodge for a romantic lunch served in the Oasis, a wet biotope filled with plants to represent the spectacular floral diversity of Madagascar. Keep your eyes peeled for birds such as the Souimanga sunbirds and the Malagasy kingfishers, frogs and chameleons in the pond, and families of lemurs leaping through the canopy.

5 Anjajavy Lodge

You'll fill your days with a wide selection of activities, including customised excursions to neighbouring islands and nature reserves, and activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, quad biking and fishing. You can visit the cave of the Sakalava, where you'll find a family of Madagascar bats among the stalagmites and stalactites, or retreat to one of the deserted beaches along the Anjajavy Peninsula for a romantic picnic. You can also visit Antafiamoara, where you'll meet the Giant tortoises who were reintroduced to the Anjajavy Reserve in 2018 after 750 years of extinction, or see the Anjajavy and Ambodro Ampasy villages where you can roam the markets filled with handmade crafts.

6 Departure from Madagascar

Sadly, your spectacular Madagascar honeymoon has come to an end. Enjoy an early breakfast before meeting your guide for the drive to the airstrip, where you'll board your scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo. On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you'll be met by a staff member who will assist you in boarding your return flight home.
